Currently a vacancy has arisen within the Brussels-based office for a "EUROPEAN PATENT ATTORNEY (PU Division) - BRUSSELS".
Huntsman have an opportunity for an experienced Patent Attorney with a strong passion for technical innovation to be based at their divisional head office near Brussels. Reporting to the IP Managing Attorney you will work within a small team to implement and coordinate a worldwide IP strategy for a number of assigned technology clusters within the Polyurethanes business, whilst working as part of a Global Legal Team to defend and protect IP across the wider business division.
Additionally, as a EU Patent Attorney, you will:
provide guidance and advice to the Polyurethanes division, including the Research Group and Senior Management;
Lead the drafting and filing of patent applications and leading oppositions when required;
Work with R&D and commercial groups to identify new inventions and assess their patentability and commercial significance to the Polyurethanes business;
Draft, file and prosecute patent applications in Europe and elsewhere, utilizing local counsel where necessary;
Challenge third party patent rights and defend Huntsman’s patent rights in oppositions and similar proceedings;
Review an advise on IP related agreements, letters, forms and other legal documents and revise creative and practical solutions to meet commercial needs;
Assess and advise on possibly infringements of Huntsman’s patent rights by third parties, and support related litigation and dispute resolution.
EDUCATION: Master Degree in Chemistry (or similar discipline)
EXPERIENCE: Demonstrable post EPO qualification experience as a Patent Attorney and previous experience in effectively managing global patent portfolios with strong decision making skills. Knowledge of chemical manufacturing is desirable but not essential.
LANGUAGES: Fluency in English is essential with a knowledge of German and/or French highly desirable
Combine analytical skills with a good sense of strategic insight, eye for details and be able to work against deadlines;
Have a high degree of self-motivation and personal conviction;
Be able to work in a team, have good communication skills towards internal and external clients, written and orally;
Have cross cultural awareness;
Have a high level of flexibility in order to adapt to changing task priorities;
